THE ANCIENT WISDOM OF ORIGEN

 

Certainly the most important Christian philosopher before Augustine, his controversial thought ranged in every area of philosophical religious thought, but the key theme shown here was conversion, namely, how a person is turned away from or turned back to God. That point is difficult to doubt in view of the pagan times in which Origen lived (died after 251 C.E.). Founded on the original Greek writings, this study indicates how profound the work of this thinker was, investigating areas no one had dared explore before him. Many, including Augustine, owe a great debt to Origen.
